Jorge Castañon
One character that comes at first to my mind, that since a few weeks ago he was giving a talk and conducting a workshop at the university, is Jorge Castañon, Argentine jeweler who I met a few years ago while I was studying goldsmith (2013, before I get to the university) and visited the school where I have studied. It is one of the first in Latin America that works and research on contemporary jewelry workshop and founder of the ''nave'' (1990), where he has been able to provide tools to assist the realization of innovative new languages in this area, contributing to the formation of interesting artists. His works have been exhibited in countries around the world, even presenting his work in one of the most important worldwide event of contemporary jewelry, Schmuck in Germany.
One of the reasons that I was interested about him is primarily, for its contemporary vision of jewelry, leaving in the background the merely decorative importance of jewel, taking this object so common, intimate and close to people for use with a communicative purpose, being the person carrying it who helps convey the message. In addition, I rescue his departure with traditional techniques and materials of jewelry, using such precarious materials that even though got a heavy load and importance, like the realization of works with pieces of salvaged wood of a rare tree that has been cut by a business need.
Today, while I was working in goldsmith workshop, I heard to my teacher Angela speaking about him, and he seems to me a warm person and good artist
ResponderBorrarLove his kind of "povera jewelry". I always work wish garbage, there's something so magic about giving a chance to something that was just a piece of trash, to be part of something big. He does it really good.
ResponderBorrarThis artist does an excellent job and a very interesting vision of the things of life.
ResponderBorrarVery good selection of images to present their work!
